Big Changes for the Training Credit

Saving money on Liability just got easier

This past year, more than seventy districts qualified for our Training Credit Programs. This is the largest level of participation those programs have ever had. Those districts’ employees completed nearly ten thousand courses on our Training Center.

Those seventy districts also stand to save between 5 and 10% on their 2019 Liability contribution. For many districts, this means thousands and thousands of dollars. But next year, we think we can do better. We are making some big changes to this program in order to streamline the process for members, employees, and the Pool.

Starting this cycle, we are eliminating the legacy Affirmative Defense and Supervisor Training credits altogether. We are merging both programs into a single program. Here are the details:

Training Credit Program

This program awards participating members between 5 and 10% off of their next year’s Liability contribution. The amount awarded depends upon the amount of training completed by the district’s staff.

STEP ONE: SIGN UP

To enter the program, members must complete the survey here: http://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2019tcsurvey.

STEP TWO: LEARN

Ensure that everyone on your team completes one of the qualifying courses on our Training Center. Required employees include:

  • All full-time employees
  • All part-time employees
  • All managers, supervisors, captains, chiefs, and human resources staff
  • All temporary employees directly employed by the district

Optional participants include:

  • On-call employees
  • Temps from an agency
  • Board members
  • Volunteers
  • Independent contractors

The list of courses that qualify for this program is too long to list here, but they all deal with one of the following concentrations:

  • Sexual harassment prevention
  • Discrimination prevention
  • Slip, trip, and fall risks
  • Safe driving
  • Computer and information safety
  • Drug and alcohol-free workplace
  • Workplace ethics
  • Workplace diversity, sensitivity, and anger training
  • Human resources and hiring training

For a full list of qualifying courses, please visit our website. Note that general safety, computer skills, and lifestyle courses DO NOT qualify for this program unless otherwise indicated.

STEP THREE: SAVE

Once 80% of your team has taken one course, we will award the district a 5% credit. Once you hit 100%, we will increase the credit to 10%.

Notes and Reminders

  • Every user in our Training Center will be auto-enrolled for the program, allowing them to easily access a list of the courses.
  • If any employee completes more than one qualifying course, it’s added to the total completion count.
  • Every district that qualified for both programs in 2019 would also have qualified under our new guidelines.
  • Group training is still eligible provided the district records the training in TargetSolutions.
  • Outside training is still eligible provided the training is logged in TargetSolutions and the training invoice is submitted.

Tips

  • Start early! The tracking period began on October 1, 2018, so get started right away!
  • Have new hires complete a training course as part of their orientation.
  • Have everyone do the same training course to simplify your message.
  • Diversify! Some employees may be more apt to take the training if they can pick a course that appeals to them.

Fine Print
Credit applies to 2020 coverage year and only to Liability and cannot reduce contribution below minimum. Training must be completed between Oct. 1, 2018 and Sep. 30, 2019 and logged in the Pool Training Center (including district-specific TargetSolutions sites.)
