One of the best features of your Pool membership is the access to free online training through TargetSolutions. This user-friendly platform allows your team to learn about hazards and even maintain some certifications. Best of all, when 80% of your district’s staff completes at least one qualifying course, your district will receive up to two 5% credits on their 2020 liability coverage.
Most failed resolutions result from a lack of planning, which can make it hard to reach a goal. Most people aim for sweeping goals like ‘get in shape’ or ‘read more,’ but what steps are necessary to reach those goals? Follow through requires that you ‘buy-in’ to the idea. Planning acts as both a way to visualize the goal and a way to set accountability. Smaller, individualized goals set for weekly or even daily deadlines make even impossibly large tasks possible.
So as you go into 2019, resolve that will last. It’s like Mark Twain said, “The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex, overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, then starting on the first one.”
2018 Training Credit Program Guidelines
This year, the basic guidelines of the Training Credit Programs are the same. What’s new is that we are expanding the number of courses that qualify for the credits. Below are some basic guidelines for both programs, and some suggested courses for your staff.
TAKE THE FIRST STEP!
Before you get started, be sure you have filled out the Training Credit Survey. That will tell us how many employees you have and who we should contact with updates. Once you have entered your information, your team can start training at targetsolutions.com/csd.
The Affirmative Defense Training Credit Program is focused on ensuring that your employees have the knowledge they need to avoid trouble. Participating districts earn 5% off the following year’s Liability coverage.
In order to qualify, ensure that at least 80% of these people:
- All full time employees (including managers and supervisors)
- All part time employees (including managers and supervisors)
- All temporary employees employed by the district
Pass one eligible course on our Training Center between October 1, 2018 and September 30, 2019. Here are our recommended picks:
- Sexual Harassment Awareness
- Slips, Trips, and Falls Prevention
- Fleet Program Safe Backing
- Distracted Driving
- Back Injury Prevention
The Supervisor Training Credit Program gives leaders the knowledge to make informed decisions in employment practices and risk management. Participating districts earn 5% off their following year’s Liability coverage.
In order to qualify, ensure that at least 80% of these people:
- Computer Security Awareness
- Ethics in the Workplace
- Risk Assessment Analysis
- Preventing Discrimination in the Workplace

Tips:
- Start early! The tracking period has already begun, so get started right away!
- Have new hires and volunteers complete the training as part of their orientation.
- There are hundreds of courses that qualify you for the credits!
- For full program guidelines and links to the training lists, visit csdpool.org/training/credit.
Fine Print: Credits for both programs apply only to Liability and cannot reduce a contribution below the minimum. Training must be completed between Oct. 1, 2018 and Sep. 30, 2019 without exception and credits will be applied to the 2019 coverage year. Outside training is eligible for this program, but pre-authorization is required and the training must address one of the Pool’s top causes of loss.
