Chances are, you haven’t spent much time thinking about a sewer backup occurring in your home, or the unpleasant cleanup job they leave behind. But as most sanitation operators know, backups are costly, damaging, and can be prevented by applying just a bit of common sense and good judgment. Ask just about any sanitation operator, and they’ll tell you about the range of things that get flushed down the toilet or washed down the drain.
In 2013, the Pool created resources that districts can use to educate their customers on the causes of backups. This includes information on who holds financial responsibility for the events, and preventive measures and available homeowners’ insurance options. Better engagement by homeowners could mean thousands in annual savings for the Pool and its members.
The campaign includes a website, flyers, and brochures designed specifically for Colorado residents. Every element of the campaign includes information on backup prevention, which items not to flush, the causes of backup, the steps to take if a sewer backup happens, available insurance options, and an explanation of the financial responsibility for a backup event.
Brochures are Available
The Pool has a large number of “Cover Your Flush” brochures printed and available to Pool members upon request. We can also customize the brochures by adding your district’s logo, name, or making any other edits you would like at no extra cost. If your district prefers to take care of the printing yourselves, we would be happy to modify the documents and provide you a PDF version at no cost. If you would like to place an order, contact us.
Your district should feel free to copy any and all of the images and information from the website, coveryourflush.com, for your websites, flyers and other information.
