We Dodged a Bullet and Saved a Lot of Money

Contributed By Mike Marcum, Director of Operations, Roxborough Water and Sanitation District

Recently Roxborough Water and Sanitation District had Hartford Steam Boiler perform a thermographic inspection at our water treatment facility. The report identified several issues in our electrical cabinet. A couple which were discovered were considered to be in the “severe” category, forcing us to shut the unit off until repairs were made. We immediately contacted an electrician and provided them with a copy of the report and requested repair. All repairs were made and the equipment is back in service.

We believe by making these repairs prior to an electrical failure, which could have been catastrophic, that we have dodged a bullet by saving a lot of money and avoiding insurance claims. Ross Regadanz of Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection & Insurance Company (HSB) was very knowledgeable, professional and a pleasure to work with.

Moving forward, our district is very interested in implementing an ongoing infrared inspection program. Ross recommended that infrared inspections be done approximately every three years unless his findings indicate the need for more frequent inspections. We were so intrigued by the idea of the thermal imaging that took place that we have begun to look into purchasing a thermal camera of our own. We believe that there are numerous benefits to be had, such as a way of inspecting electrical repairs and new construction and providing endless cost savings by catching problems well before they occur.
